Teatro Real The Teatro Real (literally Royal Theatre) or simply El Real (as it is known colloquially), is one of the most important monuments of Madrid. This is a building in the center of the capital of Spain, in front of Royal Palace of Madrid, often visited by the kings of Spain.

The Teatro Real is one of the top opera houses in Europe due to:

  • Its splendid interior decoration.
  • Its modern facilities.
  • An unparalleled acoustic.

The theatre stages around seventeen opera titles (both own productions and co-productions with other major European opera houses) per year, as well as two or three major ballets and several recitals. The orchestra of the Teatro Real is the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid. The current general director is Gerard Mortier.

ecotourismTravel to Spain is an activity with many possibilities. In this blog we always talk about the most famous monuments in Spain, but today we speak of the other wonders of Spain: its trees, mountains and beaches. In Spain are some of the most valuable natural areas in Europe!

  • Pyrenees: is a range of mountains in southwest Europe that forms a natural border between France and Spain. This is one of the best areas in Europe to go skiing.
  • Cave of Altamira: a cave in Spain famous for its Upper Paleolithic cave paintings featuring drawings and polychrome rock paintings of wild mammals and human hands. The property represents the apogee of Paleolithic cave art that developed across Europe, from the Urals to the Iberian Peninusula, from 35,000 to 11,000 BC.
  • Teide National Park: a national park located in Tenerife (Canary Islands). The park has an area of 18,990 hectares and was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on June 29, 2007.
  • Lakes of Covadonga: two glacial lakes located on the region of Asturias. The lakes are only twelve kilometers away from Covadonga, but the steep, curvy drive requires 30 minutes to complete, and even more than that on busy days.
  • The Sierra de Gredos: a mountain range in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula, located between Ávila, Cáceres, Madrid and Toledo. It has been declared a regional park.

Come and discover Spain’s natural spaces! Visit our national parks and biosphere reserves and you can never forget your trip to Spain

San FerminPamplona attracts over 1 million visitors each year in July for its nine-day San Fermín festival. This is one of the most famous traditions of Spain. Want to know more? Read on...

Who was San Fermín?:

“According to tradition, San Fermín was thefirst Bishop of Pamplona, although his veneration is not recorded until the 12th century thanks to litanies from Amiens, in which he appeared from the 8th century onwards. San Fermín is now co-patron saint of Navarre with St Francis Xavier, and is also the patron of boot makers, wine traders and bakers.” (Vía Kingdom of Navarre).

The festival of San Fermin, or the Pamplona bull running as it's more commonly known outside Spain officially begins at midday on 6th July every year with the 'chupinazo'. Pamplona's fiesta of San Fermín is probably Spain's most famous. In fact, it is one of the best known festivals in the world, to a certain extent because of Ernest Hemingway's enthusiasm for it.

The festival of San Fermin is full of fun activities:

Riau-Riau

San Fermin procession

Pobre de mí

Running of the bulls

Giants and big-heads parade

Fireworks

Over 1,000,000 people come to watch this festival each year!

San SebastiánNorthern Spain is full of wonderful cities. San Sebastian, a province of the Basque Country, is a good example. Officially known in Basque language as “Donostia”, San Sebastián is famous for its fish restaurants, several beaches, tons of pintxos bars and a choice of designer clothes shops.

San Sebastian is a small city with a great story. King Sancho el Mayor of Navarra is said to have founded the city of San Sebastian around 1180. Today, San Sebastian is one of the most advanced cities of Spain and Europe, with a powerful industry (commerce and tourism) and a very intense cultural activity. San Sebastian is a continual stimulus for the senses!

You can get in by plane, bus, train (the train from San Sebastian to Madrid takes about five hours and costs under 60 euros) and car (the 453km journey should take about 4h 45min). The trip is worth because San Sebastian is a city that has it all: beach, mountains and a great cultural activity.

San Sebastian is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe. This city's an explosion of knowledge, art, tradition and modernity available to everyone. For example, if you come to San Sebastian you will see The Kursaal Convention Center, an amazing architectural work by Rafael Moneo. You will also see the City Hall, known locally as the Ayuntamiento, dates back to the 1880s. It is also very interesting to visit the Zurriola Bridge, an eye-catching and stylish bridge built in the early 1920s.

San Sebastian is a paradise for tourists! See for yourself with this beautiful video!

seville-photo The cities of southern Spain have a special personality. If you come to Spain there are many places to visit but you certainly have to know Seville. This is a unique city, full of fun and celebration, and full of monuments of very different architectural styles. Seville is the capital of the autonomous community of Andalusia, the region with the warmer climate of Spain.

Lonely Planet describes very well the city of Sevilla, a place where you can enjoy all these things:

Seville is full of impressive monuments. The Alcázar, the Cathedral, and the Archivo General de Indias (General Archive of the Indies) are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but there are many more things to do in this city. On the streets of Seville you will find The Torre del Oro (Tower of Gold), built beginning in 1220 as part of the fortifications of Seville during the Almohad reign. You'll also see The Plaza de España, a great plaza located in the Parque de María Luisa and built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. And of course there are also many museums, so many that will be impossible to visit them all!

Seville is a city well connected to the rest of Spain. You can get there by plane, train or even bus. But some things can not be expressed in words, and the beauty of Seville is one of them. So we share with you this wonderful video, enjoy!

satisfied clients
Our success is evidenced by the satisfaction of our customers. These are some client testimonials:

"Quite simply, Belen made it possible for me to organise a client conference in Barcelona from my UK base by sharing insight into suitable suppliers and managing those relationships (human and financial) on my behalf. One site visit was all it took. All this at no direct cost to my organisation. Indeed, Belen helped me organise the same conference twice... as the 2010 Volcanic Ash fiasco forced us to delay from April to October. This threw up unusual contractual/economical issues, but Ole' Special Events dealt with them all exceptionally well. Ole combines a professional attitude with a very personable approach, ensuring that, from planning to execution, I had high confidence and low stress levels. If you need to organise a professional event, particularly beyond your geographical comfort zone, and have limited in-house resources and finances to do so, Ole' Special Events and their international partners are the logical choice."

We have received great feedback from the team, they enjoyed everything at the offsite, team event, hotel/facilities, awards dinner, etc etc. Everything was organised very well and couldn't have been done any better. Thank you for all your help and support in preparation and delivering the offsite, we couldn't have done it without you".

AlhambraSpain is a beautiful country where there are many monuments. Although all cities in Spain have something that makes them special, there are buildings that stand above all others. One of them is “La Alhambra”, a palace and fortress complex located in the Granada, Andalusia.

Built up over more than six hundred years with both Muslim and Christian influences, in 2011 Alhambra became the most visited monument in Spain. Constructed during the mid 14th century by the Moorish rulers of the Emirate of Granada in al-Andalus, the beauty of the Alhambra was recognised in 1984 when it was inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO.

“Alhambra” is an Arabic word which literally means the "red one" (Its name comes from the colour of its walls). The Alhambra is an unparalleled example of how light and water can make significant decorative effects on the architecture, because it has the best of Islamic architecture. If you are visiting Granada, be sure not to miss Alhambra. Watch this video and discover its stunning beauty!

acueducto-segoviaSegovia is one of the smallest cities of Spain, but also one of the most beautiful. Located in the autonomous community of Castile and León, Segovia is one of the places you must visit if you travel to Spain. From taste some of the most delicious dishes of Spanish cuisine to see sights that will leave you breathless, Segovia is a city that you will never forget.

Just see the video below to convince you! In Segovia you can eat “cochinillo”(Roast Suckling Pig), “ponche segoviano” (Segovia layer cake) or “judiones de La Granja” (beans and bacon stew). There is no place in the world where these dishes are cooked better! Segovia is full of unique and spectacular monuments. You can find the acueduct, perhaps the most famous monument of Segovia, a roman building and one of the most significant and best-preserved ancient monuments left on the Iberian Peninsula. In Segovia you can also see the Alcázar, a stone fortification that inspired the Disney castle. Another important monument is the cathedral, the last Gothic cathedral to be built in SpainSegovia is a small and very funny town. It hosts many festivals and cultural events, like “Titirimundi”, the international puppet theatre festival; or “Hay Festival”, a cultural event that brings together writers and artists of world renown. One of the best things is that Segovia is very close to Madrid: if you are in the capital of Spain, you can arrive to Segovia in just one hour using a car or a bus, and only half an hour if you go by train! If you plan your trip well you can see the best of Segovia in one day... Come to Segovia and discover an unforgettable city! Segovia from Ricardo Martín on Vimeo.

Creative Dishes Yesterday we celebrated a very special event for Quadpack. We chose the restaurant “El Chipirón”, a family business founded in 1975 with very competitive prices. The unique atmosphere with cozy corners and attractive decoration was topped by the simplicity and creativity of the menu that goes from cocido to the more innovative dishes of Spanish cuisine. Seventy people tasted the delicious dishes of the restaurant “El Chipirón”, and the foodservice was provided by Moncho´s. It was a fantastic night!

If you're coming to Spain any time between the end of January and the middle of February, you'll have the chance to witness an amazing natural phenomenon: the flowering of the almond trees in Majorca. At this time of year the island's Mediterranean landscape is awash with white blossom, making an enchanting picture which heralds the arrival of spring. It would be a sin to leave your camera at home.

“Incredible”, “fantastic”, “fabulous”… These are just some of the expressions of wonder you'll hear from anyone who's travelled to Majorca to see the almond trees in flower. The mild winters of the Mediterranean are responsible for this unique natural spectacle which takes place every year in Spain. Between January and February over 117,000 almond trees in the Balearic Islands burst into flower, transforming fields and mountains into a fairytale landscape. The trees are clothed in myriad tones of white and pink, and for a few days this feast for the eyes becomes one of Majorca's most popular tourist attractions. Make a note in your diary, because you're bound to be captivated by the experience. Although almond trees grow all over the island, there are two areas of particular interest. One is the mountains of the Sierra de Tramuntana and the central western area, especially Marratxí, Bunyola, Santa María, Sencelles, Lloseta and Selva. And the other is the districts of Manacor, Sant Llorenç and Son Servera, in the east of Majorca. There are several routes which allow you to enjoy this natural phenomenon either on foot or by bike. Renting a car is another good way of exploring these places. You'll also find that almonds are not just a pretty sight. The Majorcan almond is famous for its distinctive characteristics and its sweet taste: try it by itself, toasted, or in one of the typical desserts of Majorcan gastronomy. You'll even find products made with almonds and almond blossom in shops and at perfume counters. So now you know, if you want, you can take away a lot more than just a beautiful souvenir photo.
